Lobby Groups

Did you know there are only 535 members of congress and nearly 18,000 lobby groups trying to seduce them with bribes, fancy trips and all kinds of perks?

Pretty scary huh? That's right. 435 of these clowns belong to the House and the remaining 100 are the Senate. Pretty frightening if you ask us. See our findings and read up on how this problem has led us into financial ruin. Not every lobby group is "bad," but most are pretty corrupt. What exactly is a lobby group anyway? Well, the best way to learn is to read up.

Start with Wiki: Wiki has some pretty in depth explanations. You should bother to learn and read this stuff because it concerns your money. Read up on the details, starting with this Wiki write-up on "interest groups" (same thing lobby group). We can all thank Merry Ol' England for many of our origins and our problems. You'll see what we mean. Visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lobby_group. You will want to read all the wiki sub-links once you get there. This will teach you what it's about if you don't know.

Professor Michael Rozeff: Next, make sure to visit and read this article written by Michael Rozeff, Professor of Finance at University of Buffalo. His take on the lobby system is very well written, and an informative piece of writing that will shock you if you're not up to speed as to what's going on in politics and finance. Visit his article at: http://www.lewrockwell.com/rozeff/rozeff15.html

University of Michigan: For a less political, more generic list of informational tidbits, visit the University of Michigan's website, filled with tons of political links. This is intended for poly-sci students, but we are all "students of being screwed by our government," so you can never know too much stuff these days. Check it out. This will give you an overview as who these special interests are - who the groups actually are, how money contributions work, and so on. A very informative website. Don't miss it. Visit: http://www.lib.umich.edu/govdocs/psusp.html#lobby

Follow The Political Money Trail: This site is very informative but we must tell you, they are funded by special interests, which somewhat contradicts our goal. However, they showcase some great technology that shows where the bribe money trails are happening. It is very cool stuff. Check it out. Click on this link [Follow the Money Map.]

Open Secrets: This next recommendation is really kind of overwhelming. We're not exactly sure what to tell you, or how to explain this, other than to say that it will BLOW YOUR MIND. Make sure to visit http://www.opensecrets.org/lobby for all your fun-filled bloodthirst lobby group needs. Guaranteed to either impress or depress the hell out of you. Whichever comes first!
